Shell CEO Lauds Tinubu, Unveils Plans for $20bn Investment in Nigeria

The Chief Executive Officer of Shell Plc, Wael Sawan, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership, describing it as instrumental in creating a conducive environment for investments and restoring investor confidence in Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Sawan made the remarks during a meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. He disclosed that Shell is expanding its operations in Nigeria and, together with its partners, is prepared to commit an additional $20 billion in investments, largely due to what he described as the President’s bold and decisive leadership.

Sawan noted that Nigeria, under the Tinubu administration, has emerged as a key destination for major investments by global oil companies. He highlighted Shell’s recent commitments, including $5 billion in the Bonga North project, $2 billion in the HI project, and ongoing gas investments linked to the Nigeria LNG (NLNG) project.

According to him, these investments reflect Shell’s long-term confidence in Nigeria’s economic stability and policy direction.

He explained that while Shell has always been interested in investing in Nigeria, the current administration’s vision and leadership have significantly strengthened the company’s resolve, especially when compared with investment opportunities in other parts of the world.

Sawan added that stability remains a critical factor for multinational corporations, noting that Shell’s investments are planned over decades, not electoral cycles, with Nigeria positioned as a long-term strategic partner.
