FCT Police Arrest Suspected Armed Robber After Gun Battle in Kado, Abuja
Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested a suspected armed robber following a gunfight during a robbery attempt, while other members of the gang managed to escape.
In a statement on Sunday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the incident occurred after a distress call was received at the Mabushi Divisional Headquarters reporting that three armed robbers were attacking motorists near MRS Filling Station in the Kado area of Abuja.
According to the statement, “On Friday, 23rd January 2026, at approximately 6:15 a.m., a distress call was received reporting that armed robbers, numbering about three, were attacking motorists near MRS Filling Station in Kado. Upon receiving the report, a police response team from Mabushi Division quickly mobilised to the scene. When the suspects sighted the police, they attempted to flee, prompting a hot pursuit and exchange of gunfire. One of the suspects sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, while the remaining suspects escaped into nearby bushes.”
The police recovered several items at the scene, including the suspects’ operational vehicle; a black Volkswagen Golf 2 with registration number JJJ 112 DW—one Beretta pistol, a locally made pistol, a Firman generator, two mobile phones (Tecno Spark 4 and Tecno T353), an Access Bank ATM card, a catapult, pliers, clothing, footwear, and other personal effects.
Efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects are ongoing.
The FCT Police Commissioner, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, has assured residents that the command will continue to strengthen security measures and urged the public to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
