Rivers Crisis Nears End as Wike Vows Peace with Fubara After Tinubu’s Intervention
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State is close to a final resolution following a renewed intervention by President Bola Tinubu.
Wike said he is optimistic that the latest involvement of the president will bring lasting peace, noting that the issue should no longer require further attention at the national level.
“By the grace of God, this will be the last time the president will be bothered with this matter, and the last time the people of Rivers State will hear about this kind of discord,” he said.
Emphasising the weight of the president’s role, Wike described Tinubu as a unifying authority whose words must be respected. “The president is the father of the nation, and when a father speaks, his children must listen and do what is necessary to ensure peace and progress,” he added.
Speaking on the expectations from key actors, Wike expressed confidence that both the Rivers State House of Assembly and Governor Siminalayi Fubara would play their parts in sustaining the truce.
“The House of Assembly will do what is expected of them, and I am also confident that the governor will take the necessary steps required of him to ensure that this peace endures,” he said.
According to the minister, the focus now is on stability and development, stressing that the ultimate goal is for Rivers State to move forward.
“The most important thing is that Rivers State progresses. We are grateful to Mr President for his tireless efforts in ensuring that we arrive at this understanding,” Wike concluded.
