At Least 10 Killed in Fresh Attacks on Plateau Communities

At least 10 people have been killed following fresh attacks by armed men on rural communities in Plateau State, according to local leaders and residents.

The violence occurred on Sunday night in Dorowa Babuje, located in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, and in Jol community of Riyom LGA. Community sources described the incidents as coordinated assaults carried out within a short time frame.

The National President of the Berom Youth Moulders Association said nine people were killed in Dorowa Babuje, while one person lost their life in Jol during the near-simultaneous attacks between about 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Witnesses said the attackers reportedly arrived on motorcycles and opened fire on residents. Community members claimed that prior warnings had been sent to security agencies about suspicious movements in the area before the assaults took place.

Operatives of Operation Rainbow, a state-backed security outfit, were said to have responded and helped repel the attackers, preventing what locals believe could have resulted in more casualties.

As of press time, the Plateau State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident.

Residents have expressed grief and frustration over the renewed violence, urging both state and federal authorities to strengthen security presence in vulnerable communities. The latest killings add to a troubling pattern of insecurity in parts of Plateau State, where rural communities have faced recurring attacks in recent months.
