Nigerian Army Seeks Specialist Medical Training in South Africa for Doctors
The Nigerian Army has announced plans to send more of its medical doctors to South Africa for specialised training as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare support for troops and improve medical services for military personnel.
Army authorities said the initiative is designed to develop advanced expertise in specialised medical fields and enhance the capacity of the Nigerian Army Medical Corps to deliver quality treatment to soldiers across various military formations and operational theatres.
The proposal was discussed during engagements between senior officials of the Nigerian Army and representatives of the South African National Defence Force, where both sides explored opportunities to expand cooperation in military medicine and professional training.
According to the Army, improving specialist training for military doctors will strengthen areas such as combat casualty care, trauma management, and advanced medical support, particularly for troops deployed in counter-insurgency and other security operations.
Security analysts say the collaboration reflects growing defence cooperation among African countries, as nations increasingly share training resources and medical expertise to improve military readiness and the welfare of personnel across the continent.
