APC Wins Five FCT Area Councils, PDP Secures One
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in five of the six Area Council chairmanship elections held in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured one seat.
The results were announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after the collation of votes from the six area councils; Abaji, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, and Kwali.
According to the declared outcomes, the APC won the chairmanship seats in Abaji, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, and Kwali. The PDP, however, retained control of AMAC, the most populous and politically significant council in the FCT.
The elections were conducted on February 21 across polling units in the capital territory. Voter turnout was described as moderate to low in several areas, with some observers reporting logistical delays in parts of the FCT. Despite these challenges, the exercise was generally peaceful, with no major security incidents recorded.
The FCT Area Council elections play a crucial role in shaping grassroots governance in Nigeria’s capital, as elected chairpersons oversee local administration, community development projects, and primary service delivery within their respective councils.
