Bandits Kill One-Year-Old, Injure Woman, Abduct Passengers in Zamfara

Armed bandits have launched a deadly attack on a passenger vehicle along the Gusau–Kasheta Kura route in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing a one-year-old child, injuring a woman, and abducting several passengers.

The incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. on January 26 as the vehicle was returning from Gusau market to Kasheta Kura village. Security sources said the attackers opened fire on the moving vehicle, causing panic among the passengers.

A one-year-old baby boy was fatally hit during the attack, while a woman sustained a gunshot wound to her leg. In addition to the casualties, the assailants reportedly abducted an undisclosed number of passengers and took them to an unknown location.

Following the attack, security operatives evacuated the child’s body and the injured woman to the General Hospital in Birnin Magaji for autopsy and medical treatment. The sources added that efforts are ongoing to rescue the abducted passengers and track down those responsible for the attack.
