Eleven Held in Connection with Murder of ARISE News Journalist, Security Guard

Eleven suspects have been remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja in connection with the killing of ARISE News journalist Somtochukwu Maduagwu and his security guard, Barnabas Danlami. The victims were attacked during a violent robbery at the journalist’s residence in September last year, a crime that shocked the Federal Capital Territory and drew widespread condemnation across Nigeria.

According to reports at the time, the assailants forcefully gained entry into Maduagwu’s home, and in the course of the robbery, both the journalist and his security guard were fatally attacked. The incident highlighted growing concerns over security and the safety of media practitioners in the country.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, sitting in Jabi, Abuja, ordered the suspects’ remand after they were arraigned on a nine-count charge, which includes criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, and murder. Authorities have assured the public that the investigation is ongoing and that justice will be pursued diligently for the victims and their families.
