FAAN Confirms Fire at Lagos Airport Terminal, No Casualties Recorded
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed a fire outbreak at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, assuring the public that no deaths or injuries were recorded.
In a statement shared on its official social media platforms, FAAN said the incident occurred on Monday at the old terminal building, which is currently undergoing reconstruction. The authority noted that its firefighting and emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the scene to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other sections of the airport.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing thick smoke and flames rising from parts of the terminal in the afternoon, triggering swift evacuation procedures. Passengers and airport staff were safely moved away from the affected area as firefighters battled to bring the situation under control.
FAAN stated that although the fire caused temporary disruption around the terminal, there were no reports of anyone trapped or injured. The agency emphasised that safety protocols were activated promptly and that airport operations in surrounding areas are being closely monitored to ensure minimal impact on flight activities.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. Authorities say investigations are underway, and further updates will be provided as more details emerge.
