The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated 50 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses and 30 tricycles to Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, as part of efforts to strengthen transportation services within the university campus.
The vehicles were officially unveiled on Thursday at the university’s sports arena, where the First Lady formally inaugurated them for immediate deployment. The initiative is aimed at easing mobility challenges, improving safety, and providing a more efficient and environmentally friendly transport system for students, staff and other members of the university community.
Speaking at the event, Mrs Tinubu reaffirmed her commitment to initiatives that enhance access to education and improve the welfare of Nigerian youths, noting that reliable transportation is critical to academic productivity and campus life.
The donation, which aligns with the Federal Government’s push for cleaner energy and sustainable transportation, is expected to significantly reduce transportation costs, curb carbon emissions and enhance daily movement across the sprawling campus.
University officials described the intervention as timely and impactful, expressing optimism that the buses and tricycles would improve the overall learning environment and contribute to a safer, more accessible campus for all users.
