Igbinedion Education Centre Expels Two Students Over Viral Assault Video
The management of Igbinedion Education Centre in Benin City, Edo State, has expelled two students following a viral video showing them physically assaulting a fellow student within the school premises.
The incident, which circulated widely on social media, sparked public outrage and raised concerns among parents and members of the public about student safety and discipline in schools.
In a statement released on Friday, the school described the behaviour displayed in the video as disturbing and completely inconsistent with the values and standards the institution upholds.
According to the statement, the school immediately launched an internal investigation after the video surfaced online. Following the review of the incident and confirmation of the students involved, the management announced that the two students responsible had been expelled with immediate effect.
“Following an immediate investigation, the students responsible have been expelled from the school with immediate effect. Such conduct will never be tolerated within our school community,” the statement read.
The school emphasised that it maintains a zero-tolerance policy for bullying, violence, and any form of abuse among students. It added that maintaining a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment remains a top priority for the institution.
The management also reassured parents and guardians that appropriate measures are being taken to strengthen student welfare and reinforce discipline within the school community.
While the school did not disclose further details about the circumstances leading to the altercation, it urged students to uphold values of respect, empathy, and responsible behaviour both within and outside the school environment.
The management further reiterated its commitment to ensuring that incidents of bullying or violence are addressed promptly and decisively to protect the wellbeing of all students.
