Lagos Taskforce Arrests 75 in Coastal Road Clean-Up Raid, Officer Injured
Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce have arrested 75 individuals during a late-night clean-up and enforcement operation along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road.
The raid, carried out around 10pm, targeted identified black spots in the area as part of ongoing efforts to restore order and sanitation along the corridor. Authorities said substances suspected to be illicit drugs were recovered during the operation.
In a statement issued on Thursday, February 12, via his Facebook page, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed that those arrested include 68 males and seven females.
Wahab also revealed that an officer, Inspector Omosanjo Mohamed, was violently attacked during the operation. The officer reportedly sustained a serious head injury and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Condemning the attack, the commissioner warned that assaults on law enforcement personnel carrying out lawful duties would not be tolerated.
“All suspects arrested during the raid will face the full weight of the law,” he stated.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to restoring order, safeguarding public spaces, and ensuring that the Coastal Road and other parts of Lagos remain safe for residents who abide by the law.
