MDCN Suspends Three Doctors Over Alleged Negligence in Death of Nkanu Adichie-Esege
The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has placed three medical practitioners on interim suspension after determining that a prima facie case of medical negligence and professional misconduct exists in connection with the death of Master Nkanu Adichie-Esege, the 21-month-old son of acclaimed author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
Those suspended are Dr. Tosin Majekodunmi, Medical Director of Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital; Dr. Titus Ogundare, an anaesthesiologist at the same facility; and Dr. Atinuke Uwajeh, Chief Medical Director of Atlantis Paediatric Hospital.
According to the council, the interim suspension will remain in effect pending the hearing and determination of their cases before the Medical and Dental Practitioners’ Disciplinary Tribunal, in line with the MDCN’s statutory mandate to regulate medical practice and uphold professional standards in Nigeria.
