NRC Expands Abuja–Kaduna Train Trips as Corridor Records Operational Recovery
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has increased the frequency of trips on the Abuja–Kaduna Train Service, signalling a gradual but steady recovery along the strategic rail corridor after years of operational disruptions.
According to the Corporation, the revised timetable will take effect from Friday, March 6, 2026, and is designed to expand travel options for commuters while strengthening service delivery on one of the country’s busiest rail routes.
The Abuja–Kaduna corridor had faced significant setbacks in recent years. Operations were disrupted following the March 28, 2022 bomb blast and the August 26, 2025 derailment, incidents that led to a scaling down of services. In the aftermath, operational rolling stock was reduced from three to one, Temporary Speed Restrictions were introduced to enhance safety, and the number of daily trips was cut.
However, the NRC says stability has now been largely restored. With improved operational conditions and the earlier relaxation of some temporary speed restrictions, the Corporation is expanding services to meet rising passenger demand.
The development marks a key milestone in efforts to rebuild public confidence in rail transportation along the Abuja–Kaduna route and reinforce its role as a critical mobility link between the Federal Capital Territory and Kaduna State.
