Oyo Police Inspector Killed in Ambush by Suspected Bandits

Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed a police operative attached to the Oyo State Police Command during a routine patrol operation in the state.

Confirming the incident to TVC News, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the deceased officer, an Inspector, was killed when the patrol team was ambushed by the suspected bandits. The attack occurred at the Budo Masalasi border post on Saturday.

According to Ayanlade, the Inspector died from injuries sustained during the ambush, while other officers also suffered varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.

He disclosed that upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State immediately ordered a comprehensive investigation and launched a manhunt for the attackers.

“There was an attack on police operatives during which an Inspector, while courageously repelling the attack, paid the supreme price in the line of duty,” Ayanlade said.

He added that preliminary investigations indicate that some of the attackers sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange of fire, and operatives are actively trailing them.

The Oyo State Police Command has assured residents that adequate security measures have been put in place to prevent a recurrence, while urging members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by promptly reporting any suspicious movements or individuals to the nearest police station.
