President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Appoints New IGP

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Assistant Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu as the new Acting Inspector-General of Police, following the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun. The appointment takes immediate effect and marks a significant leadership transition within the Nigeria Police Force.

Egbetokun stepped down after serving as the nation’s top police officer, with the Presidency commending his contributions to internal security and institutional reforms during his tenure. In announcing the new appointment, President Tinubu expressed confidence in Disu’s experience and operational track record to lead the Force at a critical time for national security.

Tunji Disu, who has served in several strategic roles including the Intelligence Response Team and the Rapid Response Squad, is regarded as a seasoned officer with over three decades of policing experience. His appointment comes amid ongoing efforts to strengthen intelligence-led policing, improve community relations, and address insecurity across the country.

In line with the Police Act 2020, the acting appointment is subject to confirmation by the Nigeria Police Council, after which it will be forwarded to the Senate for approval.

Security stakeholders say expectations are high for the new IGP to consolidate reforms, enhance accountability, and rebuild public trust in policing nationwide.
