Sanwo-Olu, Ogiame Atuwatse III Grace Lens for Good Storytellers’ Conference at National Theatre
The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday, 6 January 2026, attended the Lens for Good Storytellers’ Conference, held at the National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos, reaffirming the state’s commitment to storytelling as a powerful tool for social change, cultural preservation, and national development.
The conference, themed “Story That Moves Us,” brought together leaders across governance, culture, media, and the creative economy. Among the dignitaries present was His Royal Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri, whose presence underscored the enduring role of traditional institutions in shaping narratives that unite and inspire communities.
Governor Sanwo-Olu was joined by key stakeholders including the Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Mr. Idris Olorunnimbe; Director General of the National Theatre, Mrs. Tola Akerele; Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe; Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso; and the Personal Photographer to the President, Mr. Nosa Asemota, alongside chiefs from the Warri Kingdom.
The Lens for Good Storytellers’ Conference focused on the transformative power of visual and narrative storytelling in driving empathy, influencing policy, and advancing inclusive development. Participants explored how ethical storytelling can amplify marginalized voices, document cultural heritage, and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
Speaking through their presence and engagement, the leaders emphasized the importance of investing in Nigeria’s creative ecosystem—particularly platforms that blend culture, technology, and purpose-driven narratives. The event also highlighted the National Theatre’s evolving role as a hub for creative dialogue, artistic expression, and cross-sector collaboration.
