FG Clears N758bn Inherited Pension Debt, Benefits 957,045 Nigerians

The Federal Government has cleared inherited pension liabilities dating back to 2007 through a N758 billion intervention bond, benefiting 957,045 people nationwide, the National Pension Commission (PenCom) has announced.

PenCom Director-General, Omolola Oloworaran, disclosed this on Tuesday at the commission’s 2026 Media Conference in Lagos.

She described the settlement as the resolution of outstanding pension obligations accumulated across successive administrations, noting that the government had opted to clear the inherited debt rather than allow it to remain unresolved.

According to Oloworaran, the payment marks a significant shift from years of delays in settling pension benefits, bringing relief to hundreds of thousands of beneficiaries across the country.
