ADELEKE FAMILY ADDRESSES LONG-STANDING PATERNITY ALLEGATIONS IN PRESS BRIEFING

The Adeleke family on Wednesday held a press briefing to address renewed public discussions surrounding a long-standing paternity allegation involving global music star David Adeleke (Davido) and a child identified as Anu.
Speaking as the head of the Adeleke family, Chief Adeleke said the decision to address the media was prompted by the resurfacing of social media claims and publications which, according to him, misrepresented events that date back to 2014.
“I am not active on social media,” he said, “but I have been informed of renewed claims circulating online. As the head of my family, I felt it was necessary to present the facts as they occurred.”
BACKGROUND OF THE CLAIM
According to Chief Adeleke, the family first became aware of the allegation in 2014, following the receipt of a formal letter delivered by courier from Ibadan. The letter alleged that Davido was responsible for a pregnancy and requested a paternity test.
He noted that the documents received included photographs and a birth certificate, but also contained inconsistencies that immediately raised concerns, prompting him to initiate an independent verification process.
DNA TEST PROCESS INITIATED BY THE FAMILY
Chief Adeleke stated that, without prejudice, he immediately contacted the child’s maternal relatives and assured them that if the child was biologically related to the family, she would be fully accepted.
He explained that arrangements were made for a DNA test at a medical facility in Lagos, with samples taken in the presence of all relevant parties. The samples were reportedly sent abroad for analysis, in line with standard medical procedures at the time.
“The result showed a probability of paternity of 0.00%,” he said, adding that the outcome indicated Davido was not the biological father.
ADDITIONAL TESTS CONDUCTED
In order to eliminate all doubt, Chief Adeleke disclosed that the family funded additional DNA tests, including repeat testing at different facilities.
“In total, multiple tests were conducted. All valid results were consistent,” he said, adding that one test was discarded due to sample contamination.
He emphasized that the family went beyond basic requirements to ensure fairness, including covering accommodation and logistics for the child’s maternal family during the testing period.
ON DATA PRIVACY AND LEGAL CAUTION
Addressing calls for the public release of DNA reports, Chief Adeleke explained that DNA profiles cannot be legally shared, especially where minors are involved.
“DNA data is sensitive. Publishing it could expose individuals to serious legal and security risks,” he stated.
He clarified that while results could be sighted by relevant parties, full DNA profiles would not be released to the public.
RESPONSE TO RECENT SOCIAL MEDIA CLAIMS
Chief Adeleke further addressed recent social media posts allegedly made in the name of the minor, stating that a close relative of the child had communicated directly with him to deny involvement in the online accounts.
According to him, the relative confirmed that the posts were not authored by the child or her immediate family and expressed regret over any embarrassment caused.
FAMILY POSITION
Reiterating the family’s stance, Chief Adeleke said the issue had been thoroughly addressed years ago and should not be repeatedly reopened through online speculation.
“I have fourteen grandchildren. If science had proven that this child was my granddaughter, she would have been embraced without hesitation,” he said.
He concluded by urging restraint, respect for the privacy of all parties involved, and an end to the circulation of unverified claims.
