First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has unveiled a N50 million endowment fund for the Tai Solarin Federal University of Education (TASFUED), Ijagun, Ogun State, in a landmark moment marking the institution’s transition from state to federal ownership and its 17th convocation ceremony.
The endowment was announced during the official handover of the university from the Ogun State Government to the Federal Government, following approval granted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in March last year. Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, described the development as a historic transition and a defining milestone in the history of both the state and the institution.
Represented at the ceremony by the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, the First Lady was conferred with an honorary Doctor of Science degree in Childhood Education. Former Ogun State Governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba, was also honoured with a Doctor of Science (honoris causa) in Political Science.
In addition to the general endowment, Mrs Tinubu announced a further N10 million donation to the university’s Department of Childhood Education, aimed at supporting outstanding female graduating students over a 10-year period.
She also pledged N1.5 million for the overall best graduating student, reaffirming her commitment to initiatives that promote education and empower children and young people across Nigeria. The First Lady urged the graduating students to remain worthy ambassadors of their institution and the nation.
