Five Security Officers Detained Over Abuja Airport Security Breach

Five security personnel have been detained following a joint investigation into the security breach that occurred on February 12, 2026, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

The probe was carried out by the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), and the Federal Ministry of Aviation.

Those detained include Ayuba Yakubu (ASP) of the Police; Murtala Inuwa of the DSS; Najeeb Murtala (ASI) of the NIS; and Musa Adamu and Salihu Victor, both officials of Aviation Security (AVSEC).

Findings from the investigation indicate that the officers allegedly admitted to receiving bribes to facilitate unauthorised access into restricted airport areas and to obstruct legitimate security procedures.

The suspects have since been handed over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for prosecution.

Meanwhile, other personnel from the NIS and NCS whose conduct was deemed non-criminal, but involved the misuse of official uniforms to aid unauthorised access, are expected to face administrative sanctions.
