Nigerian Socialite Dies After Cosmetic Surgery Complications
A Nigerian socialite, Elena Jessica, has reportedly died after suffering severe complications following a cosmetic surgery procedure, a development that has sparked shock and grief among her followers on social media.
According to reports, the young influencer underwent a revision Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure at Cynosure Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Clinic in Ikoyi, Lagos, on February 6, 2026. Two days after the surgery, she allegedly began experiencing severe pain around the operated areas.
Medical examinations later revealed that her white blood cell count had risen to critical levels, while her blood levels had dropped significantly. Doctors reportedly carried out multiple blood transfusions as her health condition worsened.
Despite receiving antibiotics and additional treatment, including another procedure to remove excess fat from the initial surgery, her condition reportedly continued to deteriorate. Accounts shared online, including statements attributed to her sister, suggested that Elena later developed sepsis, a serious infection that spreads through the bloodstream.
The family also reportedly struggled to secure an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) bed at a major hospital while dealing with the rising cost of treatment. It was claimed that relatives had to sell personal belongings to cover medical bills, with millions of naira reportedly demanded for continued intensive care.
Following news of her death, friends and fans flooded social media with tributes and messages of condolence, remembering her as a vibrant young woman whose life was cut short. Video clips said to show her final moments also circulated online, further intensifying public reaction.
The incident has renewed concerns among many Nigerians about the safety and regulation of cosmetic procedures, particularly Brazilian Butt Lift surgeries, which are widely regarded as high-risk even when performed in certified medical facilities.
