Nigeria Launches Initiative to Connect Schools to Reliable Internet
The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched a new initiative aimed at providing reliable internet connectivity to schools across the country in a move to strengthen digital learning and introduce modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, into the education system.
Officials said the programme will target primary and secondary schools in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with the goal of bridging the digital divide and improving access to online learning resources for students and teachers.
The initiative is also expected to equip learners with digital skills needed to thrive in a technology-driven world while enabling educators to adopt more innovative teaching methods.
The project forms part of the government’s broader National Digital Economy Strategy, which focuses on promoting innovation, strengthening digital literacy, and accelerating the adoption of technology across critical sectors such as education.
Education experts say improved internet access in schools could transform learning outcomes in Nigeria by allowing students to access global educational content, participate in virtual classrooms, and gain exposure to emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, coding, and data analytics.
The programme will also include teacher training, the provision of digital devices, and the development of modern learning materials designed to prepare Nigerian students for participation in the global digital economy.
