Governor Faces Backlash After Distributing SUVs to Traditional Rulers Amid Poor School Conditions
The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has come under public criticism after distributing luxury sport utility vehicles to traditional rulers as part of activities marking his 61st birthday.
Reports indicate that the vehicles Exeed VX SUVs were presented to first-class chiefs and members of the Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs during a ceremony held in Jos.
Each of the SUVs is estimated to cost between N50 million and N55 million depending on the model and specifications, raising concerns among residents and observers about government spending priorities.
The development has drawn strong reactions after images circulated online showing pupils in some rural communities across the state still learning in makeshift mud classrooms reportedly constructed by villagers due to the absence of proper school buildings and learning facilities.
Critics argue that the funds used to procure the luxury vehicles could have been channelled into improving education infrastructure, including the construction of classrooms and provision of better learning environments for children in underserved communities.
The situation has since sparked a broader debate on social media, with many Nigerians questioning government priorities and calling for greater investment in education and basic infrastructure, particularly in rural areas where access to quality schooling remains a challenge.
