Makinde Inaugurates Acting Board for Oyo Electricity Regulatory Commission
The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has inaugurated an acting board for the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission (OYSERC) as part of efforts to strengthen regulatory oversight and accelerate the development of the state’s electricity market.
The move is expected to support the operationalisation of the commission and advance reforms aimed at improving power sector governance and electricity supply within the state.
As part of the appointments, Governor Makinde named the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Dahud Kehinde Shangodoyin, as the Acting Chairman of the commission.
Other members of the acting board include Ayanniyi Taiwo, who will serve as Acting Secretary; Solomon Oyekunle as Acting Technical Member; Abiodun Adedoja as Acting Strategy Member; and Omolara Omoremi as the Acting Legal Member.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Chairman, the appointments represent a key step in making the commission fully operational and strengthening the state’s capacity to regulate electricity generation, distribution, and market activities.
The statement noted that the newly constituted acting board will play an important role in establishing regulatory frameworks, ensuring compliance with electricity sector policies, and creating an enabling environment for investment in the state’s power sector.
The development follows ongoing efforts by state governments in Nigeria to take on greater roles in electricity regulation following reforms that allow subnational governments to develop and regulate electricity markets within their jurisdictions.
Officials say the establishment and activation of the commission will help position Oyo State to attract investment, improve electricity access, and support economic growth through a more efficient and competitive electricity market.
