At least eight people have been killed following a late-night assault on Mbwelle village in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, marking yet another deadly episode in the region’s recurring violence.

The attack, which occurred between about 10:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on April 9, 2026, saw armed men storm the quiet rural community and open fire on residents. Local sources and authorities confirmed that most of the victims were from a single family, intensifying the tragedy for the affected community.

In addition to the fatalities, at least three people sustained injuries, while several others were initially declared missing in the aftermath of the нападение. Community leaders described the incident as both targeted and prolonged, alleging that the attackers operated for hours before fleeing the scene.

Residents also raised concerns over the response time of security forces, claiming help arrived only after the gunmen had escaped. Security operatives have since been deployed to the area, with search efforts underway to locate the perpetrators and prevent further attacks.
