Court Bars Uzodinma From Claiming APC Senatorial Ticket, Declares Okorocha Winner

A Federal High Court in Abuja has barred Hope Uzodinma, governor of Imo State, from presenting himself as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Imo West Senatorial District, in a ruling that could affect his reported ambition to become Senate president in the 12th National Assembly.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu, in his judgment delivered on Thursday, ruled that Uzodinma did not win the APC senatorial primary conducted on May 18 and monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The court held that former Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, secured the majority of votes cast during the primary and ordered the APC to submit his name to INEC as its candidate for the January 16, 2027 senatorial election.

Egwuatu further directed INEC to publish Okorocha’s name as the party’s flag bearer for the election, effectively dismissing Uzodinma’s claim to the senatorial ticket.
