23 Pupils, Proprietor’s Wife Kidnapped in Kogi School Attack

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have abducted 23 pupils and the wife of a school proprietor following a late-night raid on Dahallukitab Group of Schools, located in Zariagi along the Kabba Junction axis of Lokoja, Kogi State.

The attackers reportedly struck on Sunday night, exploiting the school’s remote and bushy surroundings to carry out the operation with little resistance. The incident triggered panic in the area as the assailants swiftly fled before security operatives could intervene.

In a follow-up operation, security agencies confirmed the rescue of 15 of the abducted pupils, while efforts continue to locate and free the remaining eight victims, alongside the proprietor’s wife.

The Kogi State Government has condemned the attack, describing it as a grave security lapse. Authorities also revealed that the school was allegedly operating without proper registration or official approval, raising fresh concerns about the risks associated with unregulated institutions, particularly those situated in isolated areas.

Officials have since urged proprietors of schools and orphanages to comply with regulatory standards and obtain necessary approvals to ensure the safety of children and staff.

Security operatives remain on the ground, intensifying search efforts to rescue the remaining victims and restore calm to the affected community.
