City Boy Movement Raises the Bar: Ekiti Structure Charged to Drive Tinubu’s 2027 Grassroots Campaign

With a 10-million-youth-vote national target and a growing structure across Ekiti’s 16 LGAs, the movement is positioning itself as a major grassroots force ahead of 2027.

The City Boy Movement (CBM) is raising the stakes in Nigeria’s emerging 2027 political contest, directing its Ekiti State structure to deepen grassroots mobilisation in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term.

The mobilisation drive comes as the movement pursues an ambitious national objective: 10 million youth votes for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. The target was announced during CBM’s 2026 national retreat in Abuja, where national and state leaders were urged to return to their communities as organisers, communicators and grassroots mobilisers.

In Ekiti, the operation is becoming increasingly structured. The movement says it now has an organisational presence across all 16 local government areas, with state executives, local-government coordinators and grassroots structures being deployed as part of its political engagement strategy.

The State Director, Asiwaju Kasali Oluwafemi, has repeatedly called for deeper engagement at ward and community level, while the movement has separately engaged women leaders, Muslim associations and other community stakeholders as part of its mobilisation programme.

The strategy is significant because Nigerian elections are rarely won through national messaging alone. They are won at the polling unit. That is where political organisations ultimately have to convert enthusiasm into voter registration, awareness, turnout and votes.

The Ekiti chapter has therefore adopted a more coordinated grassroots framework, bringing together its State Executive Council and local-government coordinators to improve mobilisation and communication.

The movement’s September 17 inauguration of its restructured State Executive Council further underlined that ambition, with town-hall engagements, street outreach and the unveiling of a state secretariat included in the programme. But the political mathematics remains formidable.

A 10-million-vote target is an aspiration, not a guarantee. Achieving it would require sustained mobilisation across states, effective voter engagement and the ability to translate youth interest into actual electoral participation.

For Tinubu’s supporters, however, CBM represents an attempt to build precisely that machinery. And in Ekiti, the message is becoming increasingly clear: The 2027 presidential contest is already being fought at the grassroots — long before the formal campaign season arrives. For the City Boy Movement, the mission is no longer simply to support Tinubu. It is to build the organisation capable of turning that support into votes.
