Lagos Begins 35-Day Traffic Diversion on Ozumba Mbadiwe Road

The Lagos State Government has commenced a 35-day traffic diversion on Ozumba Mbadiwe Road to facilitate repair works along the major highway linking Lagos Island and Victoria Island to the Lekki-Epe corridor.

The diversion took effect on Monday, October 19, 2026, with the state’s Ministry of Transportation urging motorists to explore alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion and delays.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the rehabilitation covers the stretch between Adetokunbo Ademola Road/Civic Centre and Samuel Manuwa Street.

According to him, a contraflow arrangement has been introduced on the Lagos-bound carriageway, from Samuel Manuwa Street towards Adetokunbo Ademola Road/Civic Centre, while repair work continues on the Lekki-bound lane.

The arrangement is intended to maintain traffic movement during the construction period, although motorists may experience delays along the affected corridor.

To minimise disruptions, the state government has identified six alternative routes for motorists travelling to different destinations within and around the affected areas.

Motorists have been advised to plan their journeys ahead, follow traffic management instructions and consider alternative routes throughout the 35-day repair period.
