FCC Calls for Suspension of Customs Recruitment Over Alleged Federal Character Violations

The Federal Character Commission (FCC) has called for the immediate suspension of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) recruitment exercise over alleged violations of federal character principles.

The Chairman of the FCC’s Financial Services Committee, Abdulwasiu Bawa-Allah, made the call during a press briefing in Abuja, stressing the need for a thorough investigation into the allegations surrounding the recruitment process.

Bawa-Allah noted that the commission, which is constitutionally empowered to ensure equitable representation in public institutions, was not invited to monitor the exercise.

He said the alleged exclusion of the FCC raised concerns about compliance with the principles of fairness, inclusiveness and balanced representation in federal appointments.

The commission is seeking the suspension of the recruitment process pending a proper investigation into the allegations and clarification of whether the exercise complied with the constitutional provisions on federal character.
