Tinubu Appoints Bianca Ojukwu as Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs, marking a significant reshuffle in the country’s diplomatic leadership.

The appointment, announced on April 29, 2026, follows the resignation of former minister Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down ahead of the 2027 general elections to pursue political ambitions.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, is now elevated to head the ministry, bringing years of diplomatic and government experience to the role. Her appointment is seen as part of the Tinubu administration’s broader effort to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign policy direction, enhance international partnerships, and promote economic diplomacy.

In a related development, the President also nominated Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, subject to Senate confirmation. Enikanolaiye is a career diplomat with over three decades of experience and has held postings in several global capitals.

The presidency noted that the appointments are part of ongoing efforts to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy architecture for greater efficiency and stronger global engagement, especially at a time when the country is seeking expanded trade opportunities and increased influence on the international stage.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu is expected to lead Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements, deepen bilateral and multilateral relations, and prioritise the welfare of Nigerians in the diaspora as she assumes office.
