Eti-Osa 2027: APC Puts Its Weight Behind Saheed Bankole as the Race for Constituency I Begins

An Ekocity Magazine Politics & Leadership Desk Report

In Eti-Osa, politics rarely stays quiet for long. It is a constituency where wealth, demographics, infrastructure, youth aspirations and competing political interests converge and where an election for the Lagos State House of Assembly can become a much larger contest over who speaks for one of Lagos’s most politically consequential communities. That contest is now taking shape.

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to formally flag off the campaign for Hon. Saheed Adesegun Bankole, the party’s substantive candidate for Eti-Osa Constituency I, ahead of the 2027 Lagos State House of Assembly election.

For Bankole, the flag-off is the moment when a party nomination becomes a public political project. It is also the point at which the candidate must begin converting the organisational support of the APC into something more difficult to secure: the confidence of individual voters.

Eti-Osa Constituency I is not an electorate that can simply be approached as a collection of voting figures. Its communities reflect the contradictions of modern Lagos—rapid urbanisation alongside infrastructure gaps, high-value real estate alongside housing pressures, sophisticated commercial activity alongside concerns about affordability, mobility, flooding, security and access to public services. Those realities will inevitably influence the campaign.

The APC enters the contest with an established political structure across Lagos. But party machinery, while important, cannot substitute for a persuasive local message. Bankole’s challenge will be to demonstrate that his candidacy is about more than winning a seat; it is about defining what effective representation should look like for the people of Eti-Osa Constituency I. That means placing the concerns of residents at the centre of the political conversation and translating them into clear legislative priorities.

The 2027 election will also test the ability of political parties to connect with an electorate increasingly interested in competence, accountability and tangible results. In a constituency as dynamic as Eti-Osa, voters are likely to scrutinise not only party platforms but also the character, accessibility and capacity of the individuals seeking their mandate.

The campaign flag-off consequently carries significance beyond the stage, banners and political mobilisation that traditionally accompany such events. It is the opening statement.

For the APC, the message is one of political consolidation around its substantive candidate. For Bankole, it is the beginning of a campaign in which every meeting, community engagement and public appearance will add to—or subtract from—the political argument he must eventually present to voters.

And for Eti-Osa Constituency I, the real campaign is only beginning. The question is no longer simply who carries the APC ticket. The bigger question is whether Saheed Adesegun Bankole can turn that ticket into a mandate and convince the people of Eti-Osa Constituency I that he is the representative they want carrying their voice into the Lagos State House of Assembly.
