Keyamo to Petition IGP Over Alleged Destruction, Looting in Delta
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has said he will petition the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, over the alleged destruction of campaign billboards and looting of shops in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
Keyamo made the disclosure in a post on X following an incident reported on Friday, September 18, 2026. He alleged that supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) attacked campaign materials belonging to Tompolo’s Door-to-Door Campaign Organisation in the community.
The minister further alleged that some individuals entered shops in the area and looted property. He also claimed that some law-enforcement personnel were present during the incident and called for any officers found to have condoned unlawful activities to face disciplinary action.
Keyamo said he would submit a formal petition to the IGP seeking a thorough investigation and prosecution of anyone found culpable. He added that the investigation should not be limited to members of the NDC, saying that any APC member found to have violated the law should also face consequences.
The minister also urged his supporters and other political actors not to resort to self-help, insisting that the matter should be addressed through lawful channels.
Reports on the confrontation have differed over the identities and affiliations of those involved, while the allegations of looting, destruction and security personnel involvement have not been independently established. The Delta State Government has directed security agencies to investigate the incident and prosecute anyone found culpable.
Keyamo’s planned petition is expected to put the allegations before the police for formal investigation.
