Midnight Attack Leaves Soldiers Dead, Army Vehicles Taken in Kwara
At least five soldiers have been killed following a midnight attack by suspected bandits on Kemanji village in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, raising fresh concerns over the security of rural communities and frontline personnel.
The attack reportedly began around 3:00 a.m. on Monday and lasted for nearly two hours. Residents said the village was thrown into panic as sustained gunfire echoed across the area while troops and local vigilantes attempted to repel the assailants.
By morning, the scale of the incident became clearer, with several soldiers confirmed dead and others injured during the confrontation. The attackers also reportedly made away with military vehicles and motorcycles, an incident that underscores the increasing boldness of armed groups operating in the region.
Residents largely remained indoors throughout the attack, with many saying they were aware of the severity of the situation due to the intensity of the gunfire but were unable to move for safety reasons.
Security authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident as operations are expected to continue in the affected area.
