Dangote Refinery Extends N2.15trn IPO Deadline to October 27
Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has extended its N2.15 trillion initial public offering (IPO) by two weeks, moving the closing date from October 13 to October 27, 2026, to allow more investors in Nigeria and across Africa to participate.
The extension, approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), is expected to provide additional time for prospective shareholders to subscribe to the offer as the company pushes to broaden retail investor participation.
Chapel Hill Denham, the financial adviser to the offer, announced the extension on Monday, confirming that the IPO remains open for subscriptions.
Under the offer, investors can subscribe to 4.1 billion ordinary shares at N525 per share, putting the total value of the offering at approximately N2.15 trillion.
The refinery had set a target of attracting 10 million retail investors, reflecting its ambition to expand public ownership of the business and enable a broader section of the investing public to participate in its growth.
According to information released on the offer, subscriptions had exceeded the initial target by more than three times, indicating strong investor interest in the share sale.
The additional two weeks could provide an opportunity for investors who have yet to complete their subscriptions to participate, particularly those in other African markets.
The IPO represents a significant capital market development for Nigeria, given the refinery’s scale and its strategic role in the country’s petroleum supply chain. The offer also provides investors with an opportunity to acquire an ownership stake in a major industrial enterprise at a time when domestic refining capacity remains central to discussions about energy security, fuel supply and foreign exchange demand.
However, prospective investors are expected to consider the company’s financial performance, valuation, business risks and long-term growth prospects before subscribing.
With the new deadline set for October 27, attention will turn to the final subscription figures and the extent to which the extended offer attracts additional investors across Nigeria and the continent.
