Gunmen Kill Traditional Ruler, Four Others in Benue Attack

Suspected gunmen have killed five people, including a traditional ruler, in an attack on a community in Benue State, intensifying concerns over persistent insecurity in the region.

Local sources said the assailants stormed Olegabulu community in Agatu Local Government Area, killing the monarch, his wife, son, and two other residents before fleeing the scene. Authorities are yet to officially confirm the identities of the victims.

The incident adds to a pattern of recurring violence in parts of Benue, where communities have faced repeated attacks linked to armed groups and inter-communal tensions.

Security agencies have not released a detailed statement on the latest attack, but efforts are reportedly ongoing to apprehend those responsible.

Residents are calling for an increased security presence, warning that without urgent intervention, vulnerable communities remain at risk of further violence.
