Suspected Ebola Index Patient Evacuated From Nigeria Via Air Ambulance

A woman reported to be Nigeria’s Ebola index patient has been evacuated from the country aboard a medical evacuation aircraft, according to sources cited by ARISE News.

The evacuation reportedly took place early this morning at the private jet wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, following reports that a medevac aircraft had arrived to transport the patient out of Nigeria.

ARISE News reported that its sources identified the woman as the wife of a Swiss diplomat in Nigeria. However, the circumstances surrounding her reported diagnosis and evacuation have not been independently verified.

According to the news organisation, its crew at the airport observed a convoy of three vehicles, including ambulances and diplomatic vehicles, entering the airport’s private aviation section. An international agency vehicle was also reportedly part of the convoy.

Airport officials subsequently restricted access to the private wing, while ARISE News said it obtained video footage showing a medical evacuation aircraft preparing to transport the passenger.

A source cited by the news organisation said the Federal Government was expected to make an official announcement after the aircraft had departed Nigerian airspace.

The Federal Government’s confirmation of the reported Ebola diagnosis and evacuation remains crucial. Until an official statement is issued, the claims should be treated as unconfirmed.
